Anabolic steroids can produce power-packed, adrenaline-pumping performances but they also reflect a saga of condemnation and shame.

'Anabolic' - Greek - 'Build up'

Anabolic steroids, also known as Anabolic-Androgenic Steroids (AAS), belong to the family of steroid hormones and closely resemble the male hormone, testosterone. They are quite different from the corticosteroids widely used in the treatment of asthma.

Anabolic steroids help to build up cellular tissue, especially in the muscles, by increasing their protein content and this process is referred to as anabolism. These drugs in conjunction with adequate diet, and high intensity work- outs, build muscle mass and strength besides enhancing speed, enduarance and stamina. For this reason they are very popular among athletes, body builders and weight lifters.

Anabolic steroids were first artificially synthesized in the 1930s. Recently, they have found good use in the treatment of chronic and sometimes terminal conditions such as AIDS and Cancer and in the treatment of individuals in whom the male hormone testosterone is produced in low quantities.

There are several variations of anabolic steroids of which testosterone is the most potent, determining even the level of aggressiveness in a person. This hormone is produced in males and females, but in small quantities in the female.

Mexican Steroids are anabolic steroids that are made in Mexico and sold in other parts of the world, besides Mexico. The majority of these Mexican steroids are veterinary steroids intended for animal use and hence they are called "Mexican veterinary steroids". However, they are extremely popular among body builders because they are among the cheapest anabolic steroids present in the market.

The Mexican pharmaceutical companies producing these anabolic steroids are focused on earning money and tend to compromise on the quality of the drugs. As a result they cause illness or infections among the gullible athletes and fail to provide them the intended benefit. The government of Mexico however is now establishing modern pharma companies with an eye for quality, in keeping with international standards.

Several of these synthetically manufactured anabolic steroids are banned by almost all sports organizations because they have several adverse side effects.Besides, their mode of performance remains unclear. Physicians in the US are not allowed to prescribe these drugs for non -medical purposes. However, their illegal use continues despite the fact that the sporting career of these sportsmen can be irrevocably destroyed if caught.

There are more than one million users of AAS in the USA alone several of whom are teenagers.

Some of these drugs are also manufactured indiscreet laboratories across Europe and South America, which then find their way to the American black market for the people who require them.

Some of the banned drugs include Boldenone, Androstenedione, Testosterone, Dromostanolone, Dihydrotestosterone and Methenolone.
