Symptoms of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
The most prominent symptoms of children with ADHD are Hyperactivity, Impulsivity and Inattention.These symptoms are manifested in most pre-school and early school- going children at some level. Besides these symptoms may also be triggered by other disorders. Therefore they need to be thoroughly assessed by a qualified person in order to confirm the diagnosis of ADHD.
Some of the typical symptoms of an ADHD -affected individual are-
- Feeling restless and fidgety
- Restless behavior in situations where quiet behavior is expected
- Blurting out the answer prior to hearing the entire question
- Difficulty in standing in a line
- Getting easily distracted
- Failing to pay attention to details
- Causing careless mistakes
- Not following instructions
- Losing / forgetting things easily
- Jumping from one activity to another, without completion
Experts and professionals dealing with ADHD have identified three subtypes of the disorder. They are:
- Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type (no significant inattention shown)
- Predominantly inattentive type (no significant hyperactive-impulsive behavior shown)
- Combined type (inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms present).
