Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which doctor should I consult for beriberi?

A general physician may be able to diagnose and treat beriberi. However in case of neurological/cardiac complications, it may be necessary to consult a neurologist or cardiologist.

2. Is there a permanent cure for beriberi?

If caught early, most of the complications can be reversed with thiamine supplements. However, it is necessary to follow a vitamin B1-rich diet to prevent recurrence.
