Breast Cancer - What lies in the future

Breast Cancer - What lies in the future

The future will see the advent of further understanding of genetics, molecular biology and immunology. Treatments will be more effective and less invasive with lower morbidity.

It will be possible to achieve better customization of modalities so as to fit individuals. We already know that inherited variation in genes will decide the kind of response that each individual shows to a particular treatment. There is hence a scope for tailoring the treatment based on such response differences that individuals have to chemotherapy.

Just like the response to treatment, even the tumour characteristics may vary with individuals. Different subtypes of breast cancer types have been identified by gene expression analysis.
