Breech Presentation and Delivery - Prognosis
Breech delivery increases the fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The maternal mortality and morbidity has increased due to a rise in the number of cesarean deliveries.
The fetal mortality is 9% compared with 3% in cephalic presentations. The Apgar scores are also lower in breech deliveries when compared with cephalic presentations.
The factors that have an adverse effect on the fetal outcome are older mothers, footling presentation, Hyper extended fetal head, Low birth weight, prolonged labor and non-experienced clinician.
