Prognosis And Follow-Up For Carcinoid Tumors And Carcinoid Syndrome
Removal of the primary tumor, reduction in tumor bulk, and the administration of octreotide can lead to considerable reduction of symptoms and improvement in the quality of life. Follow-ups are important following the completion of the treatment.
Prognosis
A combination of the above mentioned treatments, that is: removal of the primary tumor, reduction in tumor bulk, and the administration of octreotide (with or without interferon-�) can lead to considerable reduction of symptoms and improvement in the quality of life, reduction of the release of the biologically active substances that engender the cardiac lesions, and prolongation of survival.
Follow-Up
Follow-ups are important following the completion of the treatment. This is to check for cancer recurrence or spread. A detailed examination may be ordered for by the doctor.
