Indications for undertaking tests for Cardiac Markers
Cardiac markers play a key role in the diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment of patients with chest pain and suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS).Cardiac markers (cardiac troponin, in particular) have been incorporated in to the new definition of acute myocardial infarction. Apart from these, cardiac markers are also indicated in cases of chronic renal failure and non ischaemic heart disease. Sub arachnoid haemorrhage and pulmonary embolism are associated with elevated marker levels (TnI and TnT respsectively).
