Causes and Symptoms
Colle's fracture mostly occurs as a result of vehicle accidents or when people fall backward onto a hardened surface with outstretched hands.This fracture occurs at an inch or two proximal to the radio-carpal joint and results in the typical 'dinner fork' resembling deformity.
Symptoms
Symptoms of a Colle's fracture include:
- Pain - more if wrist is flexed
- Tenderness when the bone is palpated
- Swelling/bruising over the wrist joint area
- Deformity of the wrist - which looks crooked like a dinner fork.
- Numbness in the hand
- Pale fingers
