Congo Fever - Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) - Diagnosis
Diagnosis
Tests like ELISA, isolation of the virus, antigen detection, and polymerase chain reaction are used to diagnose Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).Diagnosis is made based on symptoms, signs, and laboratory testing. The following tests are used to diagnose Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF):
Blood tests: Blood tests show a decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Tests that indicate bleeding are abnormal in CCHF patients. These include bleeding time, activated partial thromboplastin time and estimation of fibrin degradation products. The level of fibrinogen, which is involved in clotting, may be decreased. Liver enzymes may be increased.
Urine test: Urine may show the presence of protein or blood.
Tests like ELISA, isolation of the virus, antigen detection, and polymerase chain reaction diagnose the condition.
