Congo Fever - Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF-Treatment
Treatment
Treatment includes supportive care, intravenous fluids and ribavarin.Supportive care is important in the treatment of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). Treatment includes:
- Intravenous fluids: Fluids are administered into the vein to maintain the blood pressure and electrolyte balance in the body as many patients are dehydrated.
- An antiviral drug Ribavarin has been found useful in CCHF. It is given into the vein, though it may also be given orally or through a nasogastric tube in epidemics. It should not be given to pregnant women suffering from CCHF.
- Bacterial infections in patients with CCHF should be treated with antibiotics.
