Home Pregnancy Test

About

A home pregnancy test is a test done to find out if one is pregnant or not in the relative comforts of the home. The home pregnancy test is most suitable for women who are trying to get pregnant, as they need not rush to the doctor every time they miss a period.

Home pregnancy test kits are available at any drug store without any prescription. Generally, this kit can detect pregnancy if used on the first day of a missed menstrual period. However, the test results are more accurate if one waits a few days longer.

The test detects the presence of a hormone called the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the urine sample, preferably early morning sample.

With the home test kit, one has to place a drop of urine on the prepared chemical strip. It usually takes 1 or 2 minutes for the strip to indicate the result. The results are either positive or negative for pregnancy.

Even though home pregnancy tests are considered reliable, it is always advisable to consult the gynecologist before taking any further steps.
