Vertigo Treatment
How can Vertigo be Treated?
- Vertigo from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo or labyrinthitis is often treated with physical therapy.
Epley maneuvers or repositioning maneuvers are used to move the head in a variety of positions and manipulate it to clear debris (crystals) from the semicircular canals and to reduce the inflammation that the debris causes.
Diazepam and meclizine are used to reduce the inflammation. If the inflammation is due to viral infection, then anti-viral medicines like acyclovir or valacyclovir are used.
- For patients with Meniere's disease it is advised to reduce the salt intake in the diet in combination with diuretic drugs.
