Physical examination, history and allergy testing help diagnose allergy.Physical examination and patient history help diagnosing typical allergic reactions.
Allergy testing can help confirm the diagnosis of allergy. It involves assessing the presence of allergen-specific IgE antibodies using a skin prick test or an allergy blood test.
- Skin prick test- The allergist injects extracts from allergens (such as dust mites, molds, or pollens commonly found in your area) into the skin to see whether the body has chemical substances to counteract the allergens from previous exposure. If one is sensitive to an allergen, a swollen rash will develop within 30 minutes after the test.
