Diagnosis of Clubfoot

Medically Reviewed by dr. simi paknikar, MD on Sep 25, 2014

Diagnosis of Clubfoot

Club foot is diagnosed at birth by physical examination and can also be diagnosed earlier, during pregnancy through ultrasonogarphy.

Before the child is born, clubfoot can be detected through an antenatal ultrasound scan done at 20-weeks of gestation.

After birth, it can be detected by observing the shape and position of the foot. A complete physical examination is performed to rule out other spinal and neuromuscular diseases.

The doctor may also order X-rays of the affected foot in order to assess the severity of the problem. The X-ray can also reveal any abnormal positioning of the bones and determine if there are any abnormalities in the bone.

A CT scan may be done in case of severe deformity.
