1. Which doctor should be consulted for hyperventilation problem?

Your GP can do the initial exam. If he finds anything serious he may refer you to a specialist.

2. What are panic attacks?

If some emotional stress or fear precipitates over�breathing it is due to panic. There maybe fear of heights (like standing and looking down from a tall building) or the fear of crowds or snakes or death.

Sometimes hyperventilation and panic can become a vicious combination, where panic leads to hyperventilation and further panic.


3. Is hyperventilation dangerous?

No this condition is not dangerous and it is usually self-limiting. The symptoms usually last for about 15 to 30 minutes.

4. Is hyperventilation common during labor of pregnancy?

Yes especially if the woman is delivering for the first time the rapid deep breathing to push the baby down can cause hyperventilation and she may blackout for a short period.
