1. Whom should we consult if we have problems related to sleep?You can consult a general physician or an internist or a family physician or a sleep specialist.
2. What food substances when consumed promote sleep?
Foods that contain a substance called tryptophan promote sleep. Foods high in tryptophan include: milk, eggs, meat, nuts, beans, fish, and cheese.
3. What is rebound insomnia?
On cessation of hypnotic use insomnia can reoccur which is termed rebound insomnia.
4. Can rebound insomnia be prevented?
Yes, using long acting hypnotics for shorter duration of time can prevent it.
5. Is there a possibility that insomniacs could get addicted to hypnotics?
Yes. It's quite possible to get addicted. To prevent this the lowest effective dose of a hypnotic for the shortest duration of time should be given.
