Kyphosis - Diagnosis
Your Doctor, will ask for a detailed history regarding- The symptoms and their duration
- The posture adapted by you in daily life
- Whether the condition is present from birth
- If you suffer from any diseases like osteoporosis or osteoarthritis of spine or infectious disease of the spine like tuberculosis
- If you had a Spinal injury
- Observation and palpation of the spinal area. (In kyphosis, the muscles will be tender and on palpation cause pain)
- Looking for the appearance of the curve of the spine, which will be too far outwards, resembling a hunch back, when viewed from the side. (This will confirm the deformity.)
- X-rays: to detect the severity of the curvature of the spine.
- Bone - Scan: to evaluate any degeneration or tumor or infections or fractures of the bones of the spine
- MRI Scan: to detect any damage to the spinal cord, especially if neurological symptoms are present
- CT Scan: to detect abnormalities in the spinal cord like tumors or disc degeneration etc.
