Glossary
Anemia: A condition characterized by decrease in the normally functioning red blood cellsBariatric surgery: A weight-loss surgery for obesity where the size of the stomach is reduced.
Crohn's disease: A prolonged inflammatory disease of intestine. It is associated with development of ulcers.
Tropical sprue: Disease found in tropical regions associated with inflammation of small intestine and flattening of the villi leading to malabsorption of nutrients.
Glossitis: Inflammation of tongue.
Jaundice: Jaundice is characterized by yellowing of the whites of the eyes, yellow skin, dark urine and light stool. It is a symptom of liver damage, bile obstruction or excessive red-blood-cell destruction.
Macrocytes: Normal red blood cells are about 7 microns in diameter. A macrocyte is a red blood cell larger than 8.5 microns in diameter.
