The International Obesity Taskforce declares that measures must be taken at a socio-political level to reduce development of the metabolic syndrome in populations.

A 20 yr study disclosed in 2007 on 2,375 male subjects revealed that daily consumption of a pint of milk or other dairy products on an equivalent scale reduced the risk of metabolic syndrome by more than half. This study is both supported and disputed.

Keeping a close watch on what you eat and stretching those inactive muscles will keep the syndrome away. But if you are already at high risk for developing it, you will need to work closely with your doctor to manage your syndrome. When he prescribes an immediate, intensive course of drug therapy, for each of the conditions included in your diagnosis, do not let anything delay you from starting your treatment.

Although metabolic syndrome may have some genetic disposition it has to a large extent been responsible for the emergence of a new discipline in medicine called "lifestyle medicine". The bottom line in treating this syndrome is making lifestyle alterations.

Be vigilent! Your life is in your hands!
