Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which doctors treat nodding syndrome?

Though nodding syndrome is ideally treated by a neurologist, it may also be treated by a general practitioner since the rural African areas where it is prevalent may not have specialists to treat the patients.

2. Is nodding syndrome contagious?

Nodding syndrome itself is not contagious. However, its possible cause, i.e. onchocerciases, can spread through the bite of a blackfly.
