Nutrition Facts - Types of food

Food is broadly classified into three categories:


Energy Yielding Foods:

All foods provide energy. Foods, which are rich in carbohydrate and fat, are generally considered as energy yielding foods. Major examples include cereals, pulses.

Body Building Foods:

Generally, foods, which have high protein content, are considered as body building foods. Meat, egg, and milk products are foods, which help to build up muscle.

Protective Foods:

Protective foods are those foods, which are required for protecting the body against war and tear as well as to build up the immune system. They include proteins, vitamins and minerals. Meat, fish, eggs and all the fruits and vegetables are considered as protective foods.
