Pityriasis Rosea - Symptoms
Symptoms
- An afflicted person may initially feel like he is going to catch a cold.
- Eventually a solitary, red-colored, scaly rash may appear on the stomach or on the back. This is referred to as a 'herald patch'. If the patch shows up on the back it might resemble a Christmas tree.
- Weeks later, smaller-sized spots may appear on other parts of the body. These lesions will develop along the cleavage lines.
- The rash seen in individuals affected by pityriasis rosea can resemble the rash seen in ringworm, eczema, syphilis or psoriasis.
- Sometime there may be a bout of widespread eruption of rash throughout the body. PR affects the back, chest, neck, abdomen, upper arms, and legs.
- Physical activities, like jogging or a warm-water bath may cause the rash to aggravate.
- The rash may fade away within two months time, but may sometimes last longer.
- Sometimes other symptoms, like fatigue and aches, may bother the affected person
- The affected individuals may experience excessive itching.
