Neural Tube: It is a tube, open at both ends, found in fetus, which forms brain and spinal cord. It closes completely by the 29th day after the baby is conceived.

Neural Tube Defect: If the neural tube fails to close by the 29th day after conception, it gives rise to neural tube defect. This defect causes conditions like anencephaly and spinabifida.


Anencephaly: The upper end of the neural tube fails to close and leads to underdevelopment of brain and skull.

Open spina bifida:The lower end of the neural tube fails to close.

Preeclampsia: A condition that can occur during pregnancy marked by pregnancy-induced hypertension, a protein in the urine and swelling.
