There is a small amount of risk that certain radiation sensitive organs such as the testis could be damaged. However, this risk is so miniscule compared to the diagnostic information anticipated from the test that it is never taken into consideration. If radiation is given at a larger dose, then other areas of the body are protected by suitable means.Risks related to injections and allergic reactions to the radioisotope exist, but it is usually very rare.It is very important to inform your doctor if you are PREGNANT or if you have missed your periods in which case the test can be postponed to an acceptable date or the information can be obtained from some other test that is not harmful. e.g.Ultrasound.
