You may answer these questions and find out for yourself if you are suffering from PLMD:

• Has someone else told you that your body makes unusual, repetitive movements while you sleep?
• Do these movements tend to occur in your lower legs?
• Do you feel like you are never well rested, even after a full night's sleep?
• Are you often very tired during the day?

3. Can any other measures help relieve the symptoms of PLMD?

4. Is PLMD related to Restless legs syndrome (RLS)?

Yes, Periodic limb movement disorder is a 'cousin' to RLS. Dopamine depletion has been implicated as a causative factor in both these movement disorders.

5. Does a diagnosis of PLMD always warrant therapy?

6. How would I know if the movements are disturbing my sleep?

If the movements are repeatedly disturbing your sleep, then you will be suffering from excessive sleepiness and hence will be fatigued. A sleep study can show the repeated arousals in relation to the movements.
