Spondylosis Causes

Medically Reviewed by The Medindia Medical Review Team on Apr 19, 2013

What are the causes of Spondylosis ?

Constant wear and tear and injury to the joints of the spine causes inflammation in the joints. The discs, which are like soft rubber shock absorbers, between the bones that form the spine, become hard and stiff as they shrink with age. This causes strain on all the surrounding joints and tissues, leading to stiffness.

It can be due to abnormal bony growth on the bones of the spine, which will in turn compress the nerves coming out from the spinal cord. This results in areas of sensation or function loss supplied by those compressed nerves. As one gets older the chances of acquiring spondylosis also become more.
