Vaginal Bleeding - Treatment
Vaginal Bleeding - Treatment
Treatment for abnormal vaginal bleeding entirely depends on the underlying cause. Once the cause is determined, the doctor decides on the mode of treatment best suited for the patient.- If the cause of the bleeding is due to lack of release of eggs or anovulation doctors may prescribe progesterone or an oral contraceptive containing progesterone.
- If the bleeding is due to endometrial hyperplasia progesterone medications may be recommended.
- If a woman is bleeding because she is entering menopause, an oral contraceptive may be advised in addition to counseling.
- In case of infection antibiotics are administered.
- Endometriosis may be treated with medicines or with procedures like laproscopy.
- If the bleeding is due to any growth, cancerous or otherwise, surgery may be advised. In case of malignanacy a hysterctomy may be carried out.
- In case of dysfunctional uterine bleeding oral contraceptives can improve the cycle and can help to control and lessen bleeding. For excessive bleeding, dilation and curettage (D&C) can be done.
