What are the Symptoms and Signs of Norovirus?
Once the norovirus infects a person it begins to replicate within the small intestine of the host. Symptoms begin to appear within a day or two of infection.
Typical symptoms of norovirus infection include -
- Nausea,
- Vomiting (mostly observed in children)
- Watery diarrhea (often in adults)
- Stomach cramps.
Other symptoms include -
- Low-grade fever and chills
- Headache
- Aches in the muscles
- Fatigue
Although not serious, symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting can cause dehydration. Care should be taken to avoid depletion of nutrients through vomiting or diarrhea which can have serious implications, especially in children and the elderly.
Dehydration symptoms include dizziness, decrease in the frequency of urination and dry mouth.
