Zollinger–Ellison syndrome is usually treated by a gastroenterologist. Additional consultation with an oncologist, gastrointestinal surgeon, and sometimes endocrinologist may be required.


2. I am suffering from a stomach ulcer. How do I find out if it is due to Zollinger–Ellison syndrome?

Stomach ulcers due to Zollinger–Ellison syndrome are usually multiple, occur at unusual sites, and do not respond easily to treatment. Gastrin levels are high, which is usually not the case in ulcers without Zollinger–Ellison syndrome.

3. Is Zollinger–Ellison syndrome hereditary?

Zollinger–Ellison syndrome may be hereditary when it occurs as a part of a called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1. In other cases, it may be non-hereditary.
