Glossary

Urethra: Tube-like structure through which the urine passes out of the body

Bulbous urethra: Part of the urethra at the root of the penis

Prostate: A gland in male that surrounds the upper part of the urethra and secreted fluid which forms the semen

Radical prostatectomy: Open surgery for the removal of the prostate

Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP): Surgical procedure where the prostate is removed through a tube inserted into the urethra

ECG: A test used to study the electrical activity of the heart

Foley's catheter: A tube which can remain in the urethra and help to drain urine from the urinary bladder
