1. Who will do cheilectomy?

An orthopedic surgeon will do cheilectomy.

2. How long does it take for the procedure?

It usually takes around 30 minutes for the procedure.

3. Will I have a cast after the procedure?

Your wound will be dressed after the procedure. Plaster cast or slab is not essential.


4. What are the contraindications to perform cheilectomy?

In patients with severe form of arthritis, cheilectomy is contraindicated.

5. When can I resume normal activities?

You can start weight bearing and walking in 2 weeks. Driving can be resumed in 2-3 weeks.

6. When will the arthritis pain improve?

If the surgery was done for arthritis of the great toe, there will be noticeable pain relief in about a month or so.
