Glossary

Bile: Digestive juice secreted by the liver

Benign: Non-cancerous

Carcinoid tumor: Cancer that arises from certain cells of the digestive tract called neuroendocrine cells. The tumor secretes several hormones, which cause symptoms associated with the cancer.

Pleural space: Space just outside the lungs between the two pleural membranes

Pleural membranes: Membranes which surround the lungs. They are the parietal and visceral pleura

Colorectal cancer: Cancer affecting the lower part of the digestive tract i.e. the colon and the rectum
