Glossary

Gram negative bacteria: Bacteria like Escherichia coli that do not take up the crystal violet color during gram staining.

Pubic region: The part of the anterior aspect of the body below the abdomen and above the genitals.


Urethral strictures: Areas of narrowing in the urethra.

Bladder diverticula: Outpouchings of the bladder.

Prostate: Gland at the base of the urinary bladder in males that secretes a fluid called prostatic fluid, that forms a part of semen.

Perineum: The part between the anus and scrotum in males or the vulva in females.

Benign prostatic hyperplasia: Non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate, common in older men.
