Filters:

A filter is a device designed to attenuate ranges of frequencies, while allowing others to pass, and in doing so limit the frequency spectrum of a signal in some fashion. The frequency range(s) which is attenuated is called the Stop Band, whereas the range which is transmitted is called the Pass Band. The ECG signal falls within the audio frequency range of 10 Hz to 10 KHz. The prominent frequency range from 10 Hz to 5 KHz has to be isolated to be processed. Moreover, the inherent noise of the electrical main i.e., the 50 Hz signal has to be eliminated. Hence, filters play a vital role in signal conditioning.
