Test : Catecholamines in urine


Indications : hypertension, hyperglycemia, weight loss, glycosuria.

Physiology : This is secreated by adrenal medulla and in case of tumors it secreates more. 24 hours urine sample is required.

Normal Range : 50micrograms in 24 hours urine sample

Interpretation : Elevated levels are seen in pheochromocytoma characterised by cancer of adrenal medullary glands. Increased levels also indicate functional paraganglioma characterised by cancer of symphatetic paragnalian cells.
