Why is Avapritinib Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is used to treat certain cancers of stomach and bowel called Gastro-intestinal stroma Tumors or GIST. It is also used to treat Mastocytosis. This is a condition, in which immune cells named mast cells, build up under the skin and/or in the bones, intestines and other organs.

It is a kinase inhibitor and is available in various strengths.

When should Avapritinib not be taken? (Contraindications)

  • Patients allergic to Avapritinib
  • Pregnant and lactating women

What is the dosage of Avapritinib?

Avapritinib is available as a tablet in strengths:
  • 25 mg
  • 50 mg
  • 100 mg
  • 200 mg

For GIST: The recommended dose is 300 mg
For Mastocytosis: The recommended dosage is 200 mg

How should Avapritinib be taken?

Avaptitinib tablets should be taken orally once a day on empty stomach. Do not take the missed dose within 8 hours of the next dose. Do not repeat the dose if vomiting occurs and continue with the next scheduled dose.

    • In males with female partners proper contraceptives should be used during the treatment to prevent pregnancy as the drug can cause fetal harm.
