Why is Cariprazine Prescribed? (Indications)

Cariprazine is an atypical antipsychotic drug that is prescribed for the treatment of schizophrenia (a serious mental illness that interferes with the person’s behavior and emotions). It is also used for the treatment of manic episodes of bipolar disorder (a disease that causes abnormal moods, depression and mania). The drug mainly acts by altering the effect of several chemicals in the brain.

When should Cariprazine not be taken? (Contraindications)

Cariprazine should not be used in patients who are allergic to the drug. It should also be avoided in patients with low white blood cell count, epilepsy, severe liver or kidney disease, with the use of any other medications or nutritional supplements that may interfere with its effect or cause toxicity, and during pregnancy.

What is the dosage of Cariprazine?

The recommended dose range of cariprazine is 1.5mg to 6mg to be taken once daily for schizophrenia.
For bipolar disorders, the dose range of cariprazine may be from 3mg to 6mg to be taken once daily.
