This medication is a chelating agent, prescribed for thalassaemia. It works by attaching to iron in the body so that it can be excreted in feces.

Contraindicated in patients with abnormal decrease in white blood cells.

What is the dosage of Deferiprone?

Adult: Oral- 25 mg/kg 3 times/day, up to 100 mg/kg/day.
