This medication is a thrombopoietin (TPO) receptor agonist, prescribed for immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). It helps the bone marrow to produce more platelets.

When should Eltrombopag not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with low blood platelets caused by chemotherapy, and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Eltrombopag?

PO- Initiate at a dose of 50 mg once daily.
For patients of East Asian ancestry- initiate at a reduced dose of 25 mg once daily.
