Why is Ketotifen Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is an antihistamine, prescribed for asthma, allergic conjunctivitis and other allergic conditions. It blocks histamine a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms.

When should Ketotifen not be taken? (Contraindications)

Hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Ketotifen?

Adult: PO- Asthma prophylaxis; Allergic conditions- 1 mg twice daily, up to 2 mg twice daily if needed.
Ophthalmic- Allergic conjunctivitis- As 0.025% solution: Instill 1 drop twice daily.

How should Ketotifen be taken?

It comes as a tablet, syrup to take by mouth and also as eye drops to instill over the affected eye.
