This medication is tetracyclic antidepressant (TeCA), prescribed for depression. 
It prevents re- absorption of noradrenaline back into the nerve cells in the brain.

When should Mianserin not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with history of blood disorder, who are taking or have taken MAOIs within 14 days, and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Mianserin?

Adult: PO- Initial: The recommended dose is 30-40 mg/day, gradually increased if needed. Maintenance: 30-90 mg/day at bedtime or in divided doses. Max: 200 mg/day.

How should Mianserin be taken?

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.

What are the warnings and precautions for Mianserin?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of depression, epilepsy, liver, kidney or heart impairment, heart block or recent heart attack, increased eye pressure, enlarged prostate, diabetes, mental illness, low blood pressure, thyroid problem, difficulty in urination, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• Monitor blood count, blood sugar level regularly while taking this medication.
