Why is Nabilone Prescribed? (Indications)
This medication is a synthetic cannabinoid, prescribed for nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy and used as an adjunct analgesic for nerve pain. It works by affecting the area of the brain that controls nausea and vomiting.When should Nabilone not be taken? (Contraindications)
Hypersensitivity.What is the dosage of Nabilone?
Adults- PO- The recommended dose is 1 or 2 mg twice daily. Max dose: 2 mg 3 times daily.How should Nabilone be taken?
It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with or without food. It should be given 1 to 3 hours before the first dose of chemotherapy and may be continued for up to 48 hours after the end of the chemotherapy cycle.What are the warnings and precautions for Nabilone?
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of depression, abnormal mood, alcohol abuse, smoking, mental illness, high blood pressure, heart, liver or kidney disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.• It may cause dizziness, drowsiness or lightheadedness, do not drive a car or operate machinery and get up slowly from bed while taking this medication.
• Avoid alcohol consumption.
