Why is Peginesatide Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA), prescribed for anemia due to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients on dialysis. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells.

When should Peginesatide not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with uncontrolled hypertension.

What is the dosage of Peginesatide?

IV/SC- Initial treatment: The recommended dose is 0.04-mg/kg-body weight administered once monthly.

How should Peginesatide be taken?

It comes as a solution for injection, to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein or under the skin.

What are the warnings and precautions for Peginesatide?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of heart disease, cancer, stroke, blood clot or seizures, blood disorders, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• Patient may experience increased risk of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, venous thromboembolism, thrombosis of vascular access and tumor progression. Before taking this medication, discuss with your healthcare provider.

• Patient may develop with serious heart problems such as heart attack, stroke, and heart failure; if it is so contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Patient may develop with increased risk of Serotonin Syndrome with the following symptoms: restlessness, diarrhea, fast heart beat, incoordination, nausea, vomiting. If it is so consult with your healthcare provider.
