• Simethicone / Dimethylpolysiloxane is used for the treatment of flatulence and some other conditions.

Why is Simethicone Prescribed? (Indications)

Dimethylpolysiloxane/polydimethylsiloxane /simethicone is an oral anti-foaming agent used for the treatment of flatulence.

It is often used in combination of antacids to enhance the effects of the antacids.
Dimethylpolysiloxane/polydimethylsiloxane /simethicone is also used locally as a skin protectant around a urinary catheter brought out through the lower abdomen (suprapubic cystostomy site), on bedsores, skin ulcers and burns.

It works by breaking up gas bubbles, which makes gas easier to eliminate.
