This medication is a sulfa agent, eliminates bacteria that cause infections, especially urinary tract infections.

When should Sulfamethoxazole not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with severe kidney or liver impairment, blood disorders, hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, porphyria, infants <2 months, during pregnancy (3rd trimester) and breastfeeding.

What is the dosage of Sulfamethoxazole?

Adult: PO- Initial: 2 gm, then 1 gm twice daily. Severe: 1 gm 3 times/day.
