Why is Teduglutide Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2) analog, prescribed for Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) who are needed parenteral support (additional nutrition or fluids through intravenous (IV)).

What is the dosage of Teduglutide?

SC- The recommended dose is 0.05 mg/kg once daily.

How should Teduglutide be taken?

It comes as powder for injection (diluted with fluid), to be administered by a health care provider under the skin.

What are the warnings and precautions for Teduglutide?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of cancer, polyps, high blood pressure, heart, liver or kidney problems, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• Colonoscopy should be done before initiating treatment with this medication and is recommended after 1 year.
