Clomiphene medication is an ovulatory stimulant, prescribed for infertility due to anovulation or when there is no ovulation. It increases production of gonadotropins and causes the ovaries to release one or more eggs.
Clomiphene is most commonly used to treat male infertility too by overcoming the hormonal imbalances that can affect sperm production.(

It works by the following mechanism:
Stimulates Hormone Production: Clomiphene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). It blocks estrogen receptors in the brain, particularly in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. This blocking action tricks the brain into thinking estrogen levels are low, prompting the hypothalamus to release more gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).
Increases Testosterone Levels: The GnRH release will also stimulate the pituitary gland to release a hormones called luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). These hormones play a critical role in testosterone production and spermatogenesis (sperm production) in the testes.
Improves Sperm Count and Quality: The increase in FSH directly supports the production and maturation of sperm, potentially improving sperm count, motility, and morphology.
Clomiphene will not be effective if the cause of male infertility is non-hormonal, such as anatomical issues or severe genetic abnormalities.
