Entacapone (Adcapon) is catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor, used as an adjunct to levodopa/carbidopa to treat patients with idiopathic Parkinson‘s disease. It is used during the later stages when the patient does not respond well to levodopa/carbidopa. It increases the levels of levodopa/carbidopa in the brain, enhancing its effectiveness.
