Dimethylpolysiloxane/polydimethylsiloxane /Simethicone (Siflat (40mg)) is an oral anti-foaming agent used for the treatment of flatulence.
It is often used in combination of antacids to enhance the effects of the antacids.
Dimethylpolysiloxane/polydimethylsiloxane /Simethicone (Siflat (40mg)) is also used locally as a skin protectant around a urinary catheter brought out through the lower abdomen (suprapubic cystostomy site), on bedsores, skin ulcers and burns.
It works by breaking up gas bubbles, which makes gas easier to eliminate.
