• Valproic acid is available in the form of a capsule, a sprinkle capsule (capsules containing small beads of medication that can be sprinkled on food), an extended-release and delayed-release tablets and syrup to be taken orally.
• The syrup, capsules, delayed-release tablets and sprinkle capsules are usually taken twice daily or more.
• The extended-release tablets are usually taken once a day.
• Swallow the capsules as a whole instead of crushing, chewing or breaking them.
• Take the medication at the same time every day for better results.
• Follow the directions exactly as given on the prescription label.
